Melacutin contains 3mg of melatonin. Melatonin is a natural supplement that is well tolerated by all dogs and is given as a convenient one size, one a day tablet for all weights and sizes of dogs. It is probably best avoided in pregnant bitches.
Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland during the hours of darkness and in some animals insufficient production can lead to a lack of normal circadian rhythms.
Melatonin supplementation helps to re-establish a normal diurnal rhythm. It can be used as a sleep aid in restless animals and those with nocturnal noise phobias.
Plush coated breeds such as the Chow and Pomeranian often benefit from melatonin supplementation which can help improve hair coat quality. Breeds such as the Boxer and Airedale that suffer from seasonal hair loss or thinning of hair on their flanks and breeds that have unusually heavy seasonal moults may find melatonin tablets advantageous.
Where an improvement is not seen within 30 days, two tablets a day may be given. Melatonin is best given last thing at night.
