Liver disorders

Let’s talk liver disorders

Symptoms and diagnosis

Disorders of the liver are common in dogs and cats. A wide range of clinical signs can be seen such as jaundice (a yellow tinge noticeable in the skin, mucous membranes, and eyes), seizures or other neurologic problems, gastrointestinal signs like loss of appetite, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea, fluid collection in the abdomen, excessive urination and thirst or blood clotting problems.

The list of possible abnormalities can be long: congenital (inborn) defect (shunt), acquired shunts, endocrine diseases, infectious diseases (virus, bacteria, parasites, fungi), tumors, drug induced liver disease or breed-specific liver disease. A thorough veterinary examination is required and usually includes a variety of blood tests, abdominal ultrasonography and/or X-rays. It is important to try diagnosing the primary reason for the hepatic disorder.

Nextmune offers a natural feed supplement for dogs and cats used as a complement to dietary and medical treatment of impaired liver function. Epato helps protect and regenerate the liver. It can be used to support the liver in animals with liver disorders or to counteract drug-induced liver damage when on certain medication.
